The Blade's 7 TM™ Chops

File under: Wackadoo Gurus

Guruphiliac comments treasure David "The Blade" breaks down how TM™ got broke down:
(1) The Maharishi is probably a sacro-mythical narcissist with a sociopathic edge, and with very strong skills in priestcraft.

(2) He was instrumental in bringing useful meditation technique (which is not his) to the West.

(3) He cultivated the (lie) that the technique was his.

(4) Many people benefited from the technique.

(5) Because of his personal shortcomings, he injected all sorts of pathologies into his organization, which was involved in all sorts of lies and deceptions and excesses, and his lack of care for people verges on the criminal. Many people received serious harm from involvement in his organization. Part of the problem is that they were completely unprepared by him for the difficulties of the spiritual path.

(6) He is so sacro-mythically inflated that for some time he has been seeing himself as the natural leader/ruler of the world according to 'Natural Law', and has been making efforts to establish himself as such, with no results.

(7) He is now in a permanent vacation in cuckoo-land.
That ain't no Guruphiliac hack job, either. The Blade's been there, done that and dismissed it from the inside, although it's not like it takes an expert to see that the Maharishi is little more than a Maha-nutbag anymore.

Blade, just curious how it is that you know so much about this stuff? Were you involved in spiritial organizations at one point in your life, like Jody, and came out disillusioned? Nothing negative intended by my question. Its that I read this blog a lot and like to have some idea where people are coming from, spiritually speaking. I have actually learned a lot from you and others, who are more informed than I am about groups such as these.

~~~~ Durga ! Basically a submissive seeker remains submissive even if the Guru or the organization is corrupt or bhogus. But a cynical or the rebellious type would look at everything right from the word go with a probing eye no matter even if the guru is sorto ok and the organization is much less corrupt.
Jody or Blade are probably the rebellious types who walked in knowing well that they would rebel out someday. They were not certainly disillusioned but have grown a little more wiser with all the interaction they had with the insiders. But the rebellious critic must have always been alive in them...Its just my thinking and need not be exactly right.
But in my case, i walked out each time, i realized that the guru or the organization is stagnant and cannot help the seeker beyond certain stage.
I never minded their corrupt ways because i knew i can grasp only that which i want and what was meant for me and kick the rest....perhaps i was little sympathetic too to think that any guru or an organization tend to get corrupt as it grows beyond certain size and context...
That's pretty much right in my case, although I wouldn't call myself rebellious as much as not willing to abandon critical thinking, as so many spiritual organizations would like you to do, as there is no chance they could survive without the suspension of critical thought.
~~~~ May be so ! But the critical mind is essentially is in conflict with creation where the final culmination of knowledge of the creator through creation can be still remain divided and seem impossible to attain except for some intellectual gymnastics picked on the way...

More male condescension from a guy who claims to be Indian but isn't and claims to have knowledge but doesn't, who thinks smoking pot and dreaming up some bullshit is the same thing as meditation balanced with critical thinking.

Durga doesn't need you but facedog might. Facedog is as full of shit as you without even smoking pot.
Give jackflush a hit too. Blade and Jody are too far gone...

re: the blade's belief that TM helped many people....I'm not so sure about that, actually. Seems to me that people who quit TM became much more normal after they stopped doing the technique and disassociated themselves from the TM group. My view is that TM makes people hyper sensitive to the environment (by whatever means, psychological or otherwise, who knows) and that they generally become hypochondriacs, or actually very sick (who knows why). The TM movement makes the claim that they have lower health care costs because they are so healthy, but it seems to me it's just because many of them refuse conventional treatment for diseases, preferring instead "Maharishi Ayurveda". I've seen people die in their 30s of cancers that could have been cured, had they had chemotherapy. All in the name of "purity". Making people paranoid about reading any book outside the recommended literature, blacklisting them if they visit other saints, all of it is ridiculous and unnecessary. Typical cult. Cults never do anyone any good, imo. I have heard of old-timers who started TM in the 70s who said because of the group they didn't do drugs anymore. So perhaps it helped them to abstain because of peer support. They could have gotten the same thing in some Anonymous meetings someplace.

Yes, that's a good explanation. I have a good friend of the 1st type, but I am of the 2nd and walked away from the groups I got involved with in the past. I agree with Jody, though. More than rebellious, its probably a matter of not wanting to give up the inner critic. I don't understand how people can do that. I've stupidly tried to give up my inner critic in the past, but it never worked

Interesting story Blade. Sounds like you've been around the spiritual block. Thanks for answering my question.
Cults are fascinating. It's a miracle that I never joined one cause I was easy prey at one time in my life. Well, actually, I did join one for a few years, but it was a socially sanctioned one and I learned some useful things. I think the sin city factor has kept me away from cults like the maharishi, Adi Da, et al. Now I'm mostly coming across people who follow the secret rather than a cult

Not in my universe. While the critical mind cannot grasp the Self any better than any other mind, that doesn't negate its value as a tool for discerning the smelliest bullshit from the less smelly bs.

I don't know why semblance is so hot on poor confused Betty. She's stuck more knives in me and Blade than him. In fact I think we should all agree to pray for Betty at 7pm Texas time this evening. I'll say Om 7 times in the crown of my stetson and then visualize Betty ascending.

I'll always assume the mean things semblance says to me are not really coming from him if they don't come with his name in blue light.

Durga, the man has no faith in me or my guides. Without this faith I can do nothing, especially when I have no cadillac as of yet. semblance s and orchestra only believes in his pot and his pot pipe.

Maybe if I put on some tight jeans and imagine my grandmother's cadillac, while you pray into your stetson, the deeksha will be more effective.

I'm game Sister Durga. I'll meet you in the middle of the Texas sky at 7pm tonight, focus on the lone star and we'll do our best to deliver semblance s and orchestra, and his future bride, Betty.

If the Blade can loan us some of those "powerful experiences" he had doing TM and some of his enlightenment to us, we may be able to help two unfortunates.

I think all we need is your stetson to do the trick, and maybe a little shakti from Kali Ma coming from Santa fe. The cadillac is peripheral but could draw some attention and potential devotees.

Without the devotees, there is no party and no real need to get out the good stetson.

For what it is worth, you are correct. I had forgotten my password and no longer had the original e-mail address to retrieve it. Somebody even nastier than I am by nature has used my name. So I re-registered.

Bite me semblance!
