The Maharishi's Lies

File under: Gurubusting, Satscams and The Siddhi of PR

This article at TM-Free Blog is like a Rossetta Stone of the TMâ„¢ movement and its avaricious guru, the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:
5. Maharishi is a perfect Master. This is the biggest lie and one that I will deal with in detail below. Additional claims are that he is a life long celibate, that he never makes mistakes, that only he can enlighten the world, etc...

I am ultimately going to claim that Maharishi's motivation is not simply to enlighten the world. I am going to point out that he is highly motivated by fame, money and power, even more so as time goes on. His insecurities about maintaining his power and money will show up as an increase in paranoia and greed within the TM movement.
The turban comes off for Michael D. Coleman, author of this exceedingly clear presentation of the flimflamming that was perpetrated by the Maharishi while he was alive. Now that he's dead, his con might become a canon. Woe be to the world for that!

It's over, guys.

No it's not. The press has made him a saint, and he was really just a greedy scammer. It bears constant repetition.

Maharishi has no support from within the Indian spiritual community.

The following is an interesting interview with Shree Shankaracharya Swaroopanand
Saraswati, a pre-eminent disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati. The title of Shankaracharya is one of the highest titles of hinduism.

http://minet.org/Documents/shank-2
http://minet.org/Documents/shank-3
http://minet.org/Documents/shank-4
http://minet.org/Documents/shank-5

See especially part 2 - 5.
Some observations from the Shankaracharya's mouth:

1. Maharishi's teachings are purely imaginary and have no connection with the Scriptures of
the Shankaracharya tradition.

2. Maharishi's selling mantras is in conflict with Indian tradition.

3.A mantra is never given for money. Knowledge cannot be sold for
money. Therefore, the process that is being employed by Mahesh is
merely for the sake of making money, and this is entirely against
the canons of Indian culture and civilization.

4.If the goal is to obtain and use Sidhis then it is a perversion. Any attachment with them is not expected of any yogi...all these
talks are just cheating and an Indian yogi should not do that. This will tarnish India's image.

5.What Mahesh Yogi need is to show others how to fly. He should fly
in the sky in front of everybody. It would be nice if he once flies
from America to India without any airplane. Then perhaps what he says
can be accepted. Otherwise, he will be like those who entrap people in their net of forgery.

6.it is reported by some that with this type of meditation many people have harmed themselves physically and mentally. People give huge amounts of money to buy some sickness for themselves?

7.This (TM) is a worldly Yoga. For people who are distressed by Worldly objects, or by worldly
problems, they can temporarily forget the world. However, even this much is not achieved if they sit without control over their minds.

8.The mantras he (Mahesh) gives to people are made up. These are not given by Guruji (Guru Dev). He (Mahesh) was an ordinary clerk.

9.People here in India are concerned. He (Mahesh) cheated millions of rupees from people like him (Kropinski). Because of his cheating practices, people might lose faith on Indian Spirituality. Swami Vivekanand and
Swami RamTirth left a good impression in America. We wanted that impression to continue. It makes me sad that some people from here like Rajneesh and Mahesh went there (to America) and they destroyed those good feelings.
Mahesh has caused a severe blow to Indian culture.

10. Only he can dispel darkness who does not want anything. Only such a person can drive people out of darkness to light. But he himself (Mahesh) is in darkness.

11.We want that people like you should tell others that he does not know anything about yoga. Neither he is serving American people nor Indian
people.~

It has been said by yogis for years - MMY knows nothing about Yoga and less about Mantras and Sanskrit. He was a businessman and leaves a profitable business behind - nothing else. For those looking for a successful [?] business model MMY might be worth exploring.

It is a gullible age.

Maharishi has made meditation household word and available for the whole world. The course fee has cover the cost and food for the teachers.

Maharishi has been endorsed by leading Saint and authorites of Hinduism: Anandamayi Ma, Swami Lakshmanjoo,Tat Walla Baba,Swami Muktananda, other Shankaracharyas and David Frawley.

He had the full rare knowledge of the science of mantras: Sri Vidya.
He was entrusted for many years to speak and write on the behalf of Shankaracharya Swami Brahmananda Saraswati for a reason.

I have taught many doctors TM because there is such a body of hard scientific documentation on the benefits.

3 November 2017 - Revered author David Frawley wrote for India Today:

'Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was probably the most influential yoga guru from India over the past 50 years, with millions of followers in every part of the world . . . . His influence in India was extensive, where he redefined the image of the guru and the corpus of knowledge that the guru was expected to represent. He became the media face of the yogi and meditation master.'

As in the world-wide organization that teaches Transcendental Meditation and promotes Vedic Technologies, Dr Frawley teaches in many disciplines including the ancient teaching of the Vedas, Hinduism, Yoga, Ayurveda, and Vedic astrology.

His brief yet comprehensive analysis of Maharishi's influence in the west is summed up by the statement: 'He was able to articulate the ancient traditions of Vedic and yogic knowledge for the modern mind.

He took the teachings of the old pandits of India . . . [and] gained them respect as guides to universal consciousness, the cutting edge of science and medicine and the future evolution of humanity.'
