Sri Sri Banks PR On Bomb Blast

File under: The Siddhi of PR

If Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has a siddhi, it's his ability to turn a public tragedy into the sweet milk of his name in print. Case in point: a series of bombs go off in Jaipur, India, killing 61 and injuring over two-hundred. But Sri Sri is in Argentina, mixing his Kool-Aid for a whole new market. He calls the press to condemn the bombing, and then he arranges for an audience to light candles in memory of the bombing victims. It's a nice gesture, no? Solidarity between the peoples of India and Argentina? Yes, and a great way for Sri Sri to appear the savior, when all he's really done is pass out candles for a heart-felt (by the audience) but completely ineffectual display of public sympathy halfway across the world. Were Sri Sri really concerned about the blast victims, he would have gotten on a plane and gone back to India. But that was going to cost him money, not make him any.

Granted, the 10,000 candles must have cost him something too (if they weren't in fact donated,) like 50 bucks or something.

Get a break guys.. you are making him more and more popular. You are concentrating on a smaller angle of life. Dont miss the big part.

Enjoy your life.

Outside the meager payout for the Google ads, nobody pays me anything to write, unfortunately.

You work so hard... tch tch.

Funny that you say that. I feel I don't work hard enough, that my posts are hurried and usually in need of some editing. In fact, writing this blog is easy. You find something in the news about gurus and comment on it, or you get lucky when someone sends along some inside information. Either way, it's just 45 minutes or so per day, including answering comments. It's nothing I would call hard work.

I hope you get something for it.

I do, the satisfaction that comes from exposing the human underbelly of gurudom and stripping the faux divinity off.

what have you done about the jaipur bomb blasts

This isn't about me. There was nothing inherently wrong in arranging a distant memorial rather than flying back to minister directly, until he blabbed about that memorial to the Indian press.

To the anonymous who is annoyed with this fun and informative blog:

AoL is now replacing TM as the biggest commercial spiritual scam there is.

Judy is doing a great service by warning spiritual seekers about the exploitive egomaniac godmen gurus.

just because you come from the transcendental world of the profit motive doesn't mean everyone does. I think if you were to look at SSRK's activities , all of them could be traced back to getting more P.R. to sell more courses, and to solidifying his brand so to speak , far and above what Maha Rishi ever was able to do. . If he had to go on a hunger strike or actually put himself in harms way , as Gandhi did, he would certainly notify the tabloid press first. He turns every thing into a sales opportunity.even famine and war , what a guy!

He has PR experts on his staff. He has hijacked ancient kriya pranayam meditation techniques by putting them into a trademarked package for his scams.

These techniques are not his invention, though he might had make some modification here and there.

SSRS is thief! He is free to teach them, so does everyone else. He does not own these techniques.

Can you imagine a school which you paid big tuition to learn a skill (the skill has been there since ancient times though minor modification were made to it), you can never teach the skill except as an unpaid volunteer working for that school because the school owns your skills for the rest of your life?

SSRS mega-millions is built on stolen property, scams and unpaid labor ....

There is no business like the guru business! Where else can you find unpaid volunteers making big bucks for you after they paid big time for thier own training?

Taodancing, shows your complete ignorance of what the Sudarshan Kriya is. Anyways, i don't have the time to talk to skeptics like you.

Jody, you just continue to keep proving how base you can get. All you are exposing is your own cheap self.

I would really like to have 'ontheotherhand' come and say hello, where are you? I need to ask a few questions. Anyway I find it utterly 'tragic' that people are afraid or not willing to see the grave flaws of the Aol organization - it doesn't even take much.. so do I have any personal grudges? - yes and no. I jused to be very upset about many incidents that happened on the inside, - now I am more worried about those who invest their minds as to wait for ?? (to be good)? For a while I believed it was the people in the organisation who created all the whollyguacamolle, but by reading comments by OTOH, it confirms my suspicion for looong.

To light&wisdom:
If you have no time to talk to sceptics why post anything?

And how can stating facts be considered as only exposing Jody himself?

Agreed Jody isn't scared of an occasional good laugh. But hey, i'd say he's quite clear about that when the blog states that "The primary aim is to inject a little humor into what can be an excessively self-righteous enterprise, and to illustrate the primary truth that no matter how divine their devotees believe them to be, gurus poop on the same pot we do."

And if in between the humour loads of facts are given, then honestly, find some better argument then some pseudo-spiritual mumbo-jumbo that you can read in every book of a guru that wants to make sure that nobody dares to criticise him or her - like claiming that people "who say negative things show that they have not found the divine yet and thus show to be stuck in their ego".

Those who can't take criticism when it confronts them fair and square are quite stuck in their ego as well.
And although i admit the divine is not to be found in excessive and aggressive negativity (which is by the way not something you can claim this blog shows), it certainly isn't found in lies either.

So if this blog exposes lies by use of referenced facts - whether brought with irony and sarcasm or not - then it does what it claims to do and does not expose anything more than what it admitted as being the intention from the start, namely "showing that the gurus poop on the same pot as we do."

If he does not condemn the blasts you will say where is his compassion now....if he does you say he is doing cheap publicity....damned if he does damned if he does not!!!

This just lowers your credibility!..nothing else.
